Funagi Hiromasa (船木 宏正) is the trainer of Inazuma Japan.
Funagi is a middle-aged man. He wears glasses, a grey suit with an orange tie.
Funagi seems to worry quite often about the teams progress, as he thinks it's a bad idea that Kuroiwa picked members that have never played soccer before. Funagi seems to dislike Kuroiwa also, as he thinks (as stated in episode 4) that he will try to conquer the soccer world again.
In episode 1, Funagi was introduced as the trainer for Inazuma Japan, whilst Kuroiwa Ryuusei the coach for Japan's team picked the members. But to Funagi's surprise, members who had never played soccer before were picked. Japan's team then played Teikoku Gakuen in an exhibition match, but ended up in a terrible loss of 10-1. The crowd was furious and were throwing items at the field where everyone else, implying they didn't like the team. Funagi got hit in the head. But Funagi thought about why Kuroiwa picked such terrible players, apart from the Raimon members: Matsukaze Tenma, Shindou Takuto and Tsurugi Kyousuke.
In episode 4, he appeared rushing into the Japan Youth Soccer Association, into the chairman's office; Gouenji Shuuya. Funagi had enough of Kuroiwa's ideals, and pleaded Gouenji to change the coach for Inazuma Japan. But Gouenji said that he trusts Kuroiwa, and that he along with other people, voted for him to be coach for Japan's team. Although, he didn't know that Shindou was listening to the conversation, by leaning at the wall next to the door, Funagi just has had.
